The daffodils and many spring bulbs are going to be looking just about perfect for the Open Day on the 1st April . Early cherry blossoms are just coming out and many of the early flowering shrubs are blooming. The hellebores were quite late this year and consequently are looking stunning now. Don’t miss it!

Poor things have seen temperatures go from -15° to +15° in 10 days it’s hardly surprising. Despite this the snowdrops and aconites are still looking wonderful for our final weekend of open gardens. Don’t miss it!

With quite a number of private groups visiting the gardens this week to see the snowdrops and aconites we were privileged to have two distinguished galanthophiles (snowdrop-lovers) with us yesterday with an RHS group. Roger Harvey, the well-known local nurseryman and Valentin Winjen from Belgium. They were impressed by the vast display of naturalised snowdrops and interested to find some hybridisation occurring between species and cultivars. Watch this space!

The snowdrops and aconites have re-emerged after the thaw looking very good and will be spectacular by the weekend. Fingers crossed for a couple of fine days!

The gardens will be closed the weekend of 11/12 February due to the weather. The snowdrops are looking superb but unfortunately are for the most part hidden under snow.
